Babara (Arrufat) Rutherford
aka "Babette Colby Rutherford"

After attending the University of Washington I attended Pasadena Playhouse in California. One day while reading Variety I noticed an ad for dancers (not showgirls) at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. I got the job and worked with George Gobel, Red Skelton and Dean Martin. This was a good experience and great fun but not my main career goal. I went back to Hollywood and got an agent.

I did a lot of small TV Parts, TV commercials and print ads. It was at that time I met my wonderful Robert Redford lookalike husband, Roger Rutherford. He was a professional actor and model living in New York. After 3 dates and a $1,000.00 phone bill between us we got married in Las Vegas a month later and went to New York. We had very successful careers and between us did over 150 commercials.

We have been happily married 43 years and have two grown children. Our daughter, Colette was our New York baby. She is married, a business women and lived in Seattle. Our son, Jason is our California baby. He is a writer/film maker presently single living in Hollywood.

After moving back to California I attended UCLA and studied interior design. This was quite a challenge juggling family, work, school, homework with lots of projects due every week but I found my second career passion.

My husband and I now live in Las Vegas and I have my own design firm. I do mostly high end custom homes from the ground up. All my work is from referrals and at the moment I have five custom homes and one high-rise penthouse I am working on. I absolutely love my work and it may be a while before I retire.

In conclusion I would like to say the best part of life has been my family and friends. My darling, 92 year young mother and fun twin brother, Dean live right next door. He jokingly calls me his "womb mate." I thank my family for giving me such a wonderful childhood. I loved my years as a "Trapper" and have nothing but great memories.

My best to all.

Dean Arrufat

The city of Vancouver, Washington, was the best place to grow up in. After 50 years, I look forward to reconnecting. Somebody once said, "lead life like a cavalry charge!" Oh very well! I attended Clark College for two years. My family moved to Santa Barbara, CA, where I went to SBCC. I was married four years, got drafted, two weeks later was released for a dislocated surfing shoulder, went through a divorce and moved to San Francisco.

I went to work for Statistical Tabulation selling accounting software, inventory and manufacturing softward to Fortune 500 companies. The Vice President and I became close firends, he taught me how to sell and read a balance sheet. My second year I was top salesman in the nation. Edelstein Campbell was a small, well respected iconoclastic brokerage firm who placed a premium on sales skills. They were security analysts. After a

few years I was recruited by W.E. Hutton into investment banking as Syndicate Manager where I specialized in public offerings. For four years I was the Director of Marketing for Monarch Financial Mutual Fund. The V.P. from Stat tab asked me to join him after he started East West Search. Three years later I started ASG consulting and recruiting for start up companies for the next eight years.

For thirty years I worked six days a week, until I was given a reprieve after suffering a stroke. I am now going to the gym four days a week, playing my guitar, and working three days a week at Manheim Nevada Auto Auction, great fun. I am blessed with my best friend, mom, my loving sister, my girlfirend, and her twelve year old daughter.

Ruth (Aylett) Webber

After graduation, I attended Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. After attending college I worked for an Insurance Company for a few years and then an Engineering Company in Portland. I was working for the Engineering Company when I met David Webber in December of 1964. We were married in March of 1966. After our honeymoon I moved to Salem with David. We lived in Salem for 7 years. During that time David was a letter carrier and I was a secretary until our first child, Stephanie was born in December of 1970. Soon after that David went into the restaurant business. We moved to Eugene and David opened a new Sambo's restaurant. Our second child, Mark was born in November 1973 and our third child, Brent was born in November 1976. We owned and operated restaurants in Eugene until 1981. I worked for a property management company until I retired in 2000. David is still working in medical transportation that he enjoys. We have 5 grandchildren, Cameron 15, Austin 12, Rachel 9, Jacob 7, and Ashley 2. We are truly blessed with a wonderful family. David and I have enjoyed 42 wonderful years.

Carolyn "Carrie" (Beeman) Light

Not long after graduation from High School I married, was a stay at home mom for 17 years and then began a career; first in Banking then in management with a national Vocational Rehabilitation firm. I retired in 1998.

I continue to live in Vancouver, WA. I have 3 sons, 1 daughter and 7 grandchildren with one more on the way. My daughter lives locally; one son in California and two in South Carolina. I love spending time with my family. My father is still living and at age 96 continues quite good health.

I love to travel, at home and abroad. I also spend many hours traveling in my RV. When not traveling or with family, I spend my time as a volunteer (CASA) with abused kids and with our local volunteer choir, the Vancouver USA Singers.

Betty (Bellinger) Mathews

After High School life was not as exciting until I married and had a daughter and two sons.

After becoming a single mom I went to work for Crown Zellerbach in Camas.

In 1991 I married Tom Mathews, then retired in 1995.

We have spent a lot of time in Southern California with our daughter and son-in-law. In 2002 they moved to Richmond, VA which gave us the opportunity to make many trips to visit Richmond and the East Coast. They are living now in Chico, CA with twin boys so now are traveling to Northern California. We have 5 grandsons and our dog Moll.

We belonged to Hayden Island Yacht Club and now have a "57 T-Bird and belong to the Rose City Thunderbird Club.

I enjoy beading and gardening.

Barbara (Bower) Bentley

Freida (Brown) Buller

After graduation I continued my education at Clark College. I then worked at Nabisco for a few years, before graduating from PSC with a Masters in Education eventually.

I taught in The Battle Ground School District for 31 years taking a short break when I started my family. I taught all the primary grades and was hired at City University to be a Field Supervisor for Student Teachers.

I have a son and a daughter and two wonderful grand children.

I love to travel, read, quilt, garden, do volunteer work, visit with friends, and spend time with my family.

Linda (Brown) White

My husband Ken and I live in Seattle, on Queen Anne Hill, in the little, 100-year-old house that we bought about 35 years ago. We are retired. Ken is a volunteer ombudsman with the Washington State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program and this year I have been a volunteer tutor at the Seattle Public Schools’ Secondary Bilingual Orientation Center, which attempts to teach students to speak and read English enough so that they can function in regular classes. We spend many weekends at our cabin on Puget Sound just north of Tacoma. Travel has mostly been 7 trips to France, where we rented a car and just drove around. (And no, I haven’t learned more French than bon jour and merci.) Our trips to Maui have gotten more frequent with the years. The most important events in our lives over the years have been get-togethers with our families. The time has just flown and it’s hard to believe I graduated high school 50 years ago!!

Wanda (Bullock) Hill

50 years?
Does that mean I can now say or do anything I want and blame it on old age?

’58 – ’78:
1st marriage gave us 4 children (3 sons and 1 daughter). My oldest son is in Kansas, daughter in Nebraska, middle son in Battle Ground, and youngest son in Spanaway, WA. They blessed me with 10 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. The greats are all in Nebraska. I Graduated from Clark College in ’73 with a degree in Computer Programming and Accounting.

Late ’78 – ’00:
Moved to Kansas after divorce, met & married Ray Hill in ’79 and moved to Nebraska. Cancer, no, the cure of cancer took him away in ’97. Most wonderful 18 years. We both enjoyed our church activities, fishing, camping, and our combined 10 children and families. Mom and Dad had passed on in ’91 and ’95 and I cared for mother's Aunt until ’99.

’00 to present:
Moved back home in ’00 and presently live in my snug mobile home in Brush Prairie. I have always worked outside the home and am still working as a PR Supervisor at a Vancouver based company that owns and operates 60+ nursing homes in 8 Western States. At any given time we employ around 5,000 active employees. Doesn’t look like retirement in is my near future.

Favorite past time is NASCAR ---Gooooooo Biff. I still enjoy fishing and love to go out on the Pacific whenever I can get to the coast. I love to quilt and it is taking over my home. Blue (my cat) loves it too. She is always in the middle of a quilt. I am in the A-La-Carte vocal group at church and work in the library there as well. God has really blessed me.

Love the Bios so far and hope we get more soon.

Phyllis (Calkins) Davis

Greetings from sunny Arizona!
I guess that we are supposed to start from graduation, so here goes. I went to WSU, where I met the love of my life and best friend, Joe. We married in 1961, graduated in “62, and joined the Military that fall, as Joe had been in ROTC. Our first child was born in Seattle, and we left for Maryland. Joe’s career in the military (almost 22years) took us all around the world. Our daughter was born in Germany, and our second son was born in New Mexico.

I had graduated with a degree in Music Ed., with an emphasis on Vocal Performance. However, due to so much moving with the military, (we moved almost once- a- year for much of our career) I was only able to teach on a substitute basis. Wanting to be with my kids, I chose the stay-at-home mom route, and began teaching private voice lessons out of my home. At this
same time, I directed many Chapel choirs, both adult and children’s, and was able to get my music “fix”! Church has been an important part of our lives for most of our marriage of 47 years, and continues to this time.

We have lived in Germany for two-plus years. We spent a wonderful three years in England. Joe was an exchange officer with the British Army. We returned stateside with three young children who had the most pronounced British accents! Various other moves found us in the deep-South several times, in Huntsville, Ala. Our final assignment took us from Huntsville to Anchorage, Alaska. I know that the Army has a sense of humor!!!

After military retirement we settled in Federal Way, Wa. where Joe began his second career with the Boeing Co. In 2000, Joe retired from Boeing and we hit the ole RV trail, and spent the next five years visiting sunny Arizona in the winter, and several summers in Alaska. During these early retirement years, and prior to them, we were very active in programs at Life Center, in Tacoma. I was privileged to belong to the great Chancel Choir at this wonderful church, which presents sixteen singing Christmas-Tree performances each year. It was an awesome experience! I was also active in leading bible studies, and various women’ activities.

In October of 2005, during one of our winter sojourns in Arizona, we took the great plunge and decided to purchase a new home, being built in a gated, “active-adult” golf course
community, 30 miles south of Chandler, Az. We had many months to wait before our house would be finished, but decided to sell our home in Federal Way and live in our motor home in Az. until the house was finished. I discovered that, after eight months in the RV, I could never full-time RV!

We moved into our beautiful new home at Robson Ranch in May of 2007. We have loved every minute of it. I’m not singing as much now as I did in previous years, only in church. I no longer teach private voice, but may return to it sometime in the future. I enjoy making wire-wrapped sterling silver jewelry, and have a business titled “Wrap It, I’ll Take It”. We both enjoy rock hounding, and love going each winter to the Tucson Gem and Mineral show. We made many wonderful friends at Palm Creek RV Resort in Casa Grande, where we became “Jeepers”, with a group of them, and have spent many wonderful hours
and days roaming the beautiful mountains and desert country around us.

God has blessed us with three wonderful grandchildren, two boys and one girl. Our daughter Jill and her family live in Edmonds, Wa. where she home-schools her two sons. Our oldest son, Jeff, and his family live in the Tacoma area. Our youngest son Mark died in an accident in Pullman, before his senior year of college. We have lots of room down here if you’re ever this way. Looking forward to seeing how all of you have aged!!!!!!!!!!

Timothy Campbell

I went to Oregon State for five years to get a degree in Forestry Engineering and sit on the bench on some very good basketball teams. Air Force ROTC prepared me for a four year tour of duty as an engineer in the USAF. When that was finished I started a long career in the paper business with Western Kraft in Oregon, Illinois, Louisiana, and back to Portland. After 10 years with what had become Willamette Industries, I moved to Phoenix, AZ to work for Southwest Forest Industries where I was responsible for paper mills, packaging plants, and domestic and international sales.

In 1983 I moved back to the Vancouver area to help my Mother cope with some family issues and a couple of business ventures, but I was eventually was drawn back to the paper industry and moved to the Atlanta area where I worked for two more large companies running numerous factories in the South and Midwest.

In 1990 I started my own Company called Recycling Systems which built small recycled paper mills in South Carolina, New York, New Mexico and Canada.

In 1994, I was married to my second wife, Emily, a Georgia Peach if there ever was one, and between us we have 5 children and 14 grandchildren. In 1995 we purchased the majority interest in Jackson Paper Mfg. Co. a small recycled packaging paper mill in a small town in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Our Company has been very successful because of low energy costs, great partners, and a terrific work force.

I have decided I could not be successful in retirement, so I continue to spend my work time growing our business and taking advantage of my 41 years of experience, with plenty of time off for grandkids, fishing, and travel to visit family and friends.

Emily and I look forward to seeing all of you at the Reunion!

Fred P. Church

After graduating I continued working at Firestone Rubber & Tire, where I worked part time since 1957 as a delivery boy and continued my career path with Firestone being elevated to the store manager in the Vancouver, WA store. When they suggested I was ready to become an “Executive” but you need to move to Boise, ID or Los Angeles, CA. this Vancouver home town boy couldn’t seem to imagine life out of the area and eventually quit Firestone in 1967.

In 1967 I left Firestone to become the owner of my own insurance agency “Fred Church Insurance, Inc.”, where I represented Grange Insurance. In 1994 I was honored as their very first “Agent of the Year” for growth, profitability and professionalism. Little did I know that in 1996 I would become the President of Grange Insurance Group and as an executive officer of the corporation the State of Washington Insurance Dept. suggested (strongly) that I retire as an agent. I did miss

being an agent and the personal contact with all my clients aka friends, but the travels and adventures of being the President of Grange Insurance Group from 1996 to 2000 in Seattle, WA (yes, this was a great opportunity and we lived part time in the Seattle area) gave us memories & friendships to cherish. I have been an active member of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) and my wife, Jeanne and I stay active in fundraising and developing better methods to educate the youth of today about our insurance industry.

In 1970 I was honored by being named one of the “Outstanding Young Men of America” through my involvement in the State of Washington Jaycees and was very involved in teaching insurance classes to local high school students, assisted with the Miss Washington Pageant, pyrotechnician for the Vancouver Fourth of July celebration and any local activities that were presented to the Vancouver Jaycees. I remain friends with many of the Jaycees from the 1970’s.

I have been a Board of Director for Grange Insurance Group since 1974 and at the present time hold the position of Vice Chairman; sounds pretty great for a kid that majored in electronics, ping pong and goofing off at UCLA (University of Clark, local area). I have been lucky to have some outstanding mentors around me that could see the potential in me and took their time to share their lessons of life. I was also honored to sit as Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary on the Board of Directors of the People’s Community Credit Union for 15 years.

In my personal life, I married my high school love, Virginia Dollar (Battle Ground High) in 1960 and we were the proud parents of Greg in 1961 and Michele in 1962. In a tragic auto accident in 1970 I lost my high school love and had a difficult time for a while, but after some healing I got back into the rhythm of life and married Kathleen Davidson (Evergreen High) in 1972 and adopted her daughter, Michelle in 1974 but this marriage was not meant to last for the rest of my life. I married Jeanne (Wilson High, Tacoma) in 1984 and with her son Greg (yes, there are two Greg’s and 2 Michel(ll)e’s in our family, we’ve solved the problem by giving everyone a nickname – Charlie, Mac, Missey and Beuf). Next year Jeanne and I will be married 25 years, and along with Kathy (yes, we are still friends) and her husband Gary, we all have helped in raising our 11 grandchildren (soon to be 12) and 1 great grandchild (soon to be 2).

In closing, I would paraphrase by saying the last 50 years have been eventful and busy with tears, smiles, blessings and memories to last a lifetime. I have been blessed to enjoy the company of three wonderful women, enjoyed my working career, we are still able to travel, golf, enjoy good health, continue to raise children and dogs (it never ends), helping with grandchildren, assisting with elderly parents (my father Homer just passed this February at the age of 94, what a trooper), every day presenting a new corner to turn and lessons to learn. At this time, we still live in the Vancouver area, but you need to call first to see if we are home or traveling. We look forward to seeing all the old friends and meeting new one at the 50th reunion.

Ray Clevidence

What have I been doing since 1958? I attended college in Ellensburg, WA. At age twenty-one I took my oath as a police officer and later became an investigator. I built a business with five offices throughout Oregon. I wrote 17 manuals on various types of investigation of insurance fraud. Employed by Fortune 500 companies, managing SIU (Special Investigative Units) in seven states. Retired from Clevidence Investigations in 2002 and moved to McMinnville, Oregon. My wife, Nina, and I stay busy with family. I am very involved with my Church and in the community. Co-founder of our McMinnville Auto Club, with two car shows each year, raising money for the community dinner which serves the hungry and lonely.

Linda (Collins) Casper

After graduation I went to Clark College for one year. And then I started my working career. I worked full-time for thirty-nine years; two at Alcoa, eight at Carnation Company and twenty-nine at Hyster Company. I married in June, l960. I have two sons, born in 1969 and 1973. Egon is a graphic designer and Evan is a high school teacher. Both live about fifteen minutes from my home. And I have identical twin grandsons!

I Volunteered for CEASEFIRE OREGON for several years. We worked on gun turn-ins, gun safety issues, and keeping guns out of the hands of children. I have bowled and golfed in the Hyster leagues. I love to read and watch movies.

I have traveled to Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Canada, Hawaii several times, and all around the U.S. And I love cruises!

I have enjoyed many trips with Becky (Eastman) Ward and Linda (Brown) White. Also with Donna (Rufener) Chronis, Valerie (Roberts) Gerry, and Kathie (McKnight) Haack. We have had such fun and lot's of memories!

Peter Van Epps came into my life six years ago. He is a true "southern gentleman". He makes me laugh!

Sam Cunningham

Soon after graduating from FVHS, I headed to Southern California and ended up in Orange County. Commuting a few miles north, I graduated from Cal State-Long Beach with a degree in Public Administration. Almost the same week I received my draft notice. While I have a deep respect for our military, spending armed service time in Vietnam took care of any thirst I may have had for a career in public service.

Upon returning I was hired by Pacific Mutual as a representative for their group insurance division. Eventually, it was time to open my own agency and after seven years I got bored and decided to sell to Anderson & Anderson. I became President of their benefits division and met my wife Debbie there. When they sold we took the money and escaped to Northern California where I managed Calco Insurance Brokers benefits division for 4 1/2 years. After 9/11 we returned south and opened our own agency, remaining there until we found Whidbey Island.

I've also been active in the Agents and Brokers Association (NAIFA). I am past president at the local, state and national levels. During the time that President Clinton, through his Health Plan proposal, was attempting to change the health delivery system, I was an industry national spokesperson. This is where I learned that the little guy can make a difference

Today Debbie manages the agency and I am retired. I spend my time volunteering for the Island County Republican Party, jogging, going to the gym, reading and meeting new friends, while making occasional industry presentations.

Between us we have 5 children, and 7 grandchildren, living in California, Texas and Wyoming. Before meeting we both had starts and stops along the way, but are close to our 14th anniversary. As we politely answer when asked how many times we have been married, "For the first time to the right person".

Debbie is a great gardener and spends much of her time making our 2.5 acres beautiful. I'm her not so capable and somewhat reluctant assistant. We have a wonderful view of the Puget Sound with the Olympic Mountains in the background that we enjoy as often as time permits.

Jim Darr

After 50 years, I could write a book, but don’t want to bore everyone but I will probably anyway. Important first things first!
...I married Chris whom I met in New York and married there. Over 32 years of wedded bliss. She is going on 20 years working in the administrative office for the Vancouver School District. Someone has to work! We have one daughter, Jamie, who lives at home with us and is 28 years old.
...Education – 2 years at Clark on a basketball scholarship. Worked full time as well and liked the money better than spending it on books and various college costs. The school of common sense works better for me anyway!

...Working life – I spent the summer of 1958 working for the Forest Service out of Roseburg, OR. Then went to work at the Vancouver Coca Cola bottling plant and then transferred to Portland when they purchased the business.

That was from 1958 to 1963. From 1963 to 1968 I worked for the local Pepsi Cola Co. in Vancouver. At the ripe old age of 28, I was referred by the owner of the local Pepsi Company to apply to the parent franchise company in New York. (They probably were glad to get rid of me.) I was hired and held various job responsibilities as District Mgr., Fountain Syrup Mgr., Merchandising Mgr., and Assistant Regional Mgr. I had several western states to travel.
...More working life – I got tired of all the travel and tried my hand in the beer industry and in the bread business so I could stay closer to home. Didn’t like it and decided traveling wasn’t so bad after all. I also dabbled in real estate developing land and buying and selling houses.

In late 1979, I accepted a Regional Manager’s position with the soft drink franchise Co. Squirt, out of Sherman Oak, California, owned by a company located in Holland, Michigan. Opened up a regional office in Vancouver and had responsibility for 13 Western States and 6 district Mgrs. In 1983 I was offered the position of National Sales Mgr. located in Holland, Michigan so Chris, Jamie and I lived in Holland for two years. The Squirt Company was purchased by A&W brands, the Root Beer folks located in White Plains, New York. They also owned Country Time Lemonade and Vernors Ginger Ale. I was offered the position of VP of sales for the entire US. I had offices in Michigan, L.A., Dallas and New York opening up the markets in Alaska and Hawaii. Being a corporate officer allowed me to have a generous amount of stock options. I retired early in 1990. I still managed to invest in real estate after retirement. I lived in airports for many years!!!
...Volunteering – I spent 8 years with Special Olympics and 9 years on the Board of Directors for the ARC of Clark County. They are advocates for people with disabilities. 3 years as a director, 2 years as treasurer and 4 years as President. I resigned from the board at the end of 2005 to deal with some health issues.
...Hobbies and Enjoyment – I collect old time pocket watches and collector automobiles. The cars are show quality and Chris and I show them in the summer. We have just two now, but have owned many.

We spend lots of time at the Oregon coast and owned an oceanfront home for 5 years in Waldport, OR.
We were Portland Trail Blazer season ticket holders for 16 years.
...Pretty boring stuff, but sure looking forward to seeing you all!

Linda (Davis) Uphoff

It seems like yesterday since we graduated.

The first big event Ronald Uphoff and I were married August 8, 1959 at the Methodist Church in Vancouver. We were married for 42 1/2 years before he passed away from cancer in 2001.

Ron worked at Bemis Bros. Bag for 39 1/2 years and I worked for Jantzen Knitting Mills doing teletype work for 3 years.

I quit working when our first child arrived. Our daughter Debbie was born August 16, 1962. Our second child Dan, was born September 3, 1963 at St. Joseph's hospital.

Our family moved to Battle Ground in 1968. I stayed home with our children until they started school in Battle Ground.

I then began a career with the Battle Ground school district as an Instructional Assistant where I worked for 32 years. I loved working with 1st and 2nd graders. I retired in 2002.

My son Dan is an Administrator at a hospital in Oregon. My daughter Debbie is just finishing her degree in Social Work.

The Lord has richly blessed our lives with two lovely Grandchildren.

Hope you have all had a great 50 years since graduation. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Roger Deaver

I went from FVHS and made some pretty good decisions regarding my life and direction. Upon graduating, I went on to get my degree in Forestry from the University of Washington. I married the most wonderful woman, Nancy, and have enjoyed 45 years of incredible joy and partnership. I briefly served in the military, stationed at Brooks Army Medical Hospital in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. I retired from a 37 year career with the US Forest Service in 2000 that took me to many great locations in the US including the Headquarters Office in Washington DC. I retired as Director of Recreation for the National Forests of the Southwestern US. My forestry degree also served me in another life endeavor. Nancy and I purchased timberland in Oregon in our early career and managed timber (including doing our own reforestation, harvest, and sales of timber) for 25 years. We retired from that challenging and somewhat risky venture in 2004.

Family has been a central focus of our life, especially since retiring. We have two wonderful children that live in Washington state and two grandchildren that consume much of our attention. Since we remain very active in the outdoors, we are able to hike and camp, snow ski/snowboard, water ski/wakeboard, kayak, cross-country ski, and RV & houseboat with our children and grandkids. We have found the ideal place to call our home in the beautiful mountainous region of New Mexico and located close to, and between our two most favorite places to play—Lake Powell in Arizona and the Colorado ski slopes.

When we are not with our family, Nancy and I love to travel in our RV to Alaska, the Northeast, Florida, and the Rocky Mountain states. We have enjoyed travel adventures to France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Machu Picchu, and Galapagos Islands. We look forward to Australia, New Zealand, and China, soon.

Brenda (Dietrich) Seman

After graduation, I joined the U.S. Navy for three years. I met my husband of 47 years, Allan, in Corpus Christi, TX. We started our family in Texas with Tina and Troy and when Al finished his four-year commitment, we moved back to his hometown of Cleveland, OH, and added Tracey, Tammie and Todd. They in turn gave us 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

I remained in the home to raise the family since Al normally worked a 7-day week as a Maintenance Supervisor for Ford Motor Casting Plant.

In 1991, we vacationed in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and stayed in a cabin at Hidden Mtn. Resorts. Before leaving, we committed to building our own cabin at the resort and

rented it out when we weren't using it. By 1998, we owned six resort cabins, but never more than 3 at a time and did well.

In 1997, Al retired from Ford Motor and we moved from Ohio to Cheboygan, MI next to Tammie and her family on Black Lake and watched their two children while they taught school. After five Michigan winters, we decided to move to Sevierville, TN (where our cabins were located and home of Dolly Parton).

Now, we travel the U.S. visiting our children in Vermont, Florida, Michigan and Ohio. When we are at home we volunteer for Pigeon Forge Special Events and Church activities.

I feel truly blessed with life even though 1 1/2 years ago we unexpectedly lost our son, Troy. God, family and friends help you through those unexpected events. LIFE IS GOOD THANK GOD

Sorry to be missing the reunion, but already had an August trip to visit with my sister and brother still living in Vancouver. If anyone visits the Smokies come see us. We are the only Seman in the phone book. Also welcome to get our email from Bill Cone.

Noel (Dorman) Mawer

Writing from Florida, I'm happy to celebrate such a momentous (not to say historical) event.

My life has been (so far), mostly schools, both as student and teacher. I have graduate degrees from Duke, Rutgers, and Bryn Mawr, and have taught at colleges in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, and now Florida--17 years at a historically black college. In my semi-retirement I'm teaching part-time at the local community college and do not plan to retire. ever. I've taught mostly English, as well as several sociology courses. I've varied my activities with political/social activism, from labor unions to NOW to the Democratic Party. I"m sorry not to be able to vote for Hillary. Currently I'm an officer of the North Florida ACLU--an institution that is greatly needed at this time. Last week I rode the ACLU float in Jacksonville's Gay Pride parade. Match that, if you can!

Becky (Eastman) Ward

After graduating from Clark with a degree in Nursing, I moved to Seattle where I worked in a doctor's office and on the staff of Young Life. I met and married Mike there and with the birth of our first son I became a very busy stay at home mom. After Mike's graduation from Seattle U, we moved to Iowa City where he graduated from the University of Iowa. His first job in Hospital Administration took us to a small town outside of Kansas City, Missouri where we lived for three years. We moved back to Washington in 1975 and settled in Spokane. A variety of different wonderful volunteer activities has kept me involved over the years, most notably tutoring functionally illiterate adults for 20 years. I currently serve on the board for a nonprofit that serves homeless women and children. Our son Jon, his wife Shelly and their daughter Keira live in Issaquah. Our son Steve lives in Priest River, Idaho. Mike and I have been enjoying his retirement after 27 years at Sacred Heart Medical Center with traveling and working around the home we built. We will celebrate our 41st anniversary in September. In my spare time, I like to quilt, read and have written three of our family genealogical histories and have started on the fourth. I'm crazy about baseball and love to learn new things on the computer.

Carol (Ehman) Puccinelli

Since high school I have lived a mostly happy and fulfilled life.

I have lived in Sweden, San Francisco, Pasadena, Los Angeles and now Lafayette for the past 35 years.

As for working outside the home I have been a legal secretary, worked in a foreign travel brochure company, worked for Volvo in Sweden, helped a dr. from Columbia University write his thesis, and I've been in Mary Cosmetics for 30 years - a director for 6 years early on.

I have been married to Bob for 40 years and have one daughter, a stepson and stepdaughter and 2 grandchildren.

Bob's insurance company always made the spouse a part of the team so I have been included in many company functions and travel helping organize and playing the hostess roll -- all very enjoyable and fun.

I have been involved in our church through the years, and enjoy being together with family and friends, have traveled to almost all of the world, enjoy taking photos along the way (my family has nicknamed me Flash).

My latest project is organizing our neighborhood for Emergency Preparedness in case of earthquake, fire, etc.

All in all I love my life and have many wonderful memories of Vancouver and Fort Vancouver.

After high school graduation I went on to Clark College graduating in 1960. I went back five different times taking special classes.

I married Bette Brown of Vancouver in 1960. We have two children, six grandchildren and two great granddaughters.

We bought our first home in 1960 before we were married. I worked at Columbia Machine for two years, then onto Electronic Specialties in Portland for 7 1/2 years, which is now Boeing of Portland.

In 1969 I went to Freightliner Truck Manufacturing. In 1998, after 30 years, I retired as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer specializing in tool design.

We had a summer home in Long Beach, WA and fished the ocean for 33 years out of Chinook, WA. I still fish the Columbia and the small rivers in my jet sled.

I play pool 2 days a week in Portland and Vancouver.

Bette and I will celebrate 48 years together in December 2008. We both love to travel and have been to Alaska 3 times in the last 5 years. Life is Good!!!

Gayle (Fisk) Kauffman Frewing

Following FVHS I spent the next 3 years plus summers at Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation in 1961, I was offered the position of Nursing Arts Instructor at the school, and then Assistant Medical Nursing Instructor. At the time I took liberal arts subjects at PSU, and then later attended Linfield College, getting a degree in 1977. Meanwhile Gary Kauffman and I married in 1964. Grant was born in 1966 and Julie in 1968. Both have 2 boys and fortunately for us live in the area, so we can attend baseball games, swim meets, soccer games, band concerts and school activities. Gary died suddenly from a cardiac arrest in April 1997.

My life took an unexpected turn when I read that same week that Jack Frewing’s wife, Sara, had also died.

I sent my sympathies to Jack and family via an appropriate Hallmark card. Later that summer we did get together and almost like a “class reunion” talked about our lives, where we were during various years, found out we had lived in the same general area in S.E. Portland but had not run in to each other although we had similar interests. Well… those similar interests, time and love prevailed .We were married in September, 1998

I worked for Visiting Nurses as the Home Care Coordinator for 23 years and retired in 2000. We have enjoyed some wonderful travel experiences including Japan, China, Italy, Switzerland and most recently Peru. Both Jack and I spend time each week in local volunteering activities and make use of the YMCA exercise program. Hiking is a special interest as we enjoy the Columbia River Gorge hikes, Mt. Hood area and Southwest Washington trails.

That’s it except to say (refer to Jack’s bio) that his valedictorian speech really is not as great as he thinks, haha.

Jack Frewing

Following FVHS, I was fortunate to receive a NROTC scholarship to Harvard College in 1958 and completed my undergraduate studies there; then a year for a masters degree at University of Washington and 5 years in Admiral Rickover’s Naval Reactors program (Wash DC, Newport News, Charleston), leaving the Navy as a Lieutenant, with a variety of experience in design, construction, operation and maintenance of nuclear power reactor systems.

During my navy years, I married Sara Lynen of Ridgewood, NJ (Goucher College, 1962) and subsequently had three fine girls – Leslie Runyon-Frewing, Louise Frewing and Katherine Shallenberger – all now living in the Portland area.

I worked for Battelle Memorial Institute in Richland, WA for one year, then moved to Portland and worked for Pacific Power & Light, then Portland General Electric for 28 years, again in the nuclear power business (Trojan Nuclear Plant), managing much of the federal and state licensing program, then in broader areas of corporate business planning, retiring in 1996. Of course I poked my nose into a variety of community activities during these years.

My wife, Sara Lynen, passed away in 1997 after a struggle with breast cancer; I was fortunate to find a new mate in Gayle (Fisk) Kauffman, (also of FVHS, 1958) whose husband Gary had passed away the same week as my wife. I worked for several more years as President of the Oregon Independent College Foundation, and left the working world in 2001. Since then, we have enjoyed ‘the second half of the game,’ with some travel abroad, enjoying both of our families with grandchildren, walking our beautiful Pacific Northwest with friends, fighting for various environmental interests, etc. Two notable activities for me have been a saga around finding a bottle on Tillamook Spit with messages from Japanese boys and in a different vein, serving as judge in a number of local and state Miss America Organization pageants.

PS to fellow graduates: I recently found a copy of my valedictory address at FVHS graduation, railing at the shortcomings of our US culture in the months following Sputnik and in an era of cold war with the USSR. Signed copies are available by writing me at my home address! We emerged on to the world stage at a strange time – when the human race (the most dangerous animal) almost did ourselves in (if we are not still doing that in other ways).

Robert "Bob" Furstenberg

Shortly after graduating I married Sue Neal, we had three wonderful children Jeff, Kim, and Scott. Our marriage failed and after being divorced for a few years I moved to Pendleton, Oregon and remarried. My wife LaVonna and I have a son Tyson and he is now 36. He and his wife have a one-year-old daughter. I have seven grandchildren from my other children. I am retired now, after working out of the Operating Engineers for 45 years. I am enjoying my retirement, hunting, traveling, riding my horses, and spending time with my children and grandchildren.

Celsa (Gomez) Johnson

After completing two years at Clark, I worked at Freightliner; then retired from the City of Vancouver and Hazel Dell Sewer District in 1997 as an accountant. Pete (my husband of 43 years) and I then retired to Ocean Park, WA where we have kept busy golfing and doing many community activities. We are blessed with twin girls and a son and have 6 grandchildren.

After singing in my church for 55 years, I decided to audition for Fiddler on the Roof and won the part of Matchmaker (the bug has bit me and I look forward to other productions on the Peninsula). Being a Certified Master Gardener, we stay busy keeping our town beautiful with hanging baskets and flowerbeds. We are blessed with good health and active lives and enjoy the pace in Ocean Park (not quite Mexico time).

Dixie (Gray) Pack

I moved from the Van/Port area in 1963 with my 2 sons, Ray III & Brett Clevidence to Wyoming where I was born. I married Bill Oatts in 1966. After my son’s were in school, I went to Cosmetology School & ended up modeling for hair shows in several states. Our life as a family was involved around football, baseball, bowling, traveling & snowmobiling. We sponsored 5 bowling & baseball teams thorough our Budweiser Distributorship. We did competitive Snowmobile racing as well as family outings. Bill was diagnosed with lung cancer & passed away in 1974.

I went into the Motel & Mobile Home Park business in Montana. Sold the Motel & moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where I went into Food Service with Del Webb.

In 1981 I moved to North Carolina where I became a Log Home Distributer until 1995. Sold my Log Home & Distributorship & retired to the beach. I went back to work part time as a temporary relief Postal Carrier. Later I was offered a job with the State of N.C. & retired for the second time from the State in 2003.

I married Larry Pack. He retired from his Heating & Air business in Norwalk, Ct. We have enjoyed some extensive traveling in our Motor home in the states, Mexico & Canada. We also belong to 2 classic car clubs. When we are at home, we participate in a car function or car show every week.

My hobbies include traveling, car shows, gardening and doing some catering & cooking for small or large groups. We are so blessed with health, life & have 7 grandchildren between us- ages 8 to 21 years.

Eleanor (Hungate) Jones

Down for the Count!

10. Earned a BA life-long teaching certificate from Central Washington.

9. Married classmate Milton D. Jones. We are now divorced but continue to share a friendship.

8. After teaching in Bellevue, joined the Peace Corps and spent two years in Liberia, West Africa.

7. Joyfully welcomed Carl and Sarah into our family and they have continually increased my happiness since their birth.

6. Spent the next twenty-two years teaching for international schools in Uganda, Morocco, Belgium, Thailand and Taiwan; and earned my MA from Michigan State University.

5. Earned my Administrative Credentials from WSU to head international schools in South Korea, Hiroshima, Japan and mainland China for the following eleven years.

4. June 2003 brought retirement... which brings playing tennis (lots and lots of tennis), as well as practicing yoga, hiking, biking, volunteering, gardening in Seattle, and playing with family and friends from around the world.

3. Since 2004 I've traveled to Peru, Turkey, Galapagos Islands, Egypt, and Ecuador and spent every summer at Priest Lake, Idaho--a piece of paradise in the USA--where, this August, my extended family celebrates 100 years of summering there.

2. With great delight I became a "Nana" in 2006. My two-year-old grandson Noah constantly amazes me with his learning, laughing, and love.

1. Now, as poet Mary Oliver asks, "...what is it I plan to do with my one wild and precious life?" Dr. Suess tells me "Oh, the places you'll go!" and Robert Frost says I "have many miles to go." Guess I'll start at number 20 next time!!!
